People

Famous, and not so famous, people with a connection to the Great North Road.

There are few great figures in British history who will not have experienced the Great North Road. For some it was where they grew up or it provided their first links to a wider world of opportunity. Others travelled its length at momentous times in the history of the country. Others exploited the opportunities that it created in terms of communication. And others still simply exploited those who travelled the road!
